Queen Victoria twopence blue, 1858–69 white lines issue, plate 9, corner letters C-S and S-C. Used, perforated.
What this copy offers. The cleanest of the three plate 9 examples we hold: good colour, the portrait largely clear of the strike, and sound perforations. Cancelled with an England and Wales barred numeral in a dotted strike beginning with 3; the rest of the number is not legible.
The plate, honestly. The 1858–69 twopence blue was printed from plates 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14 and 15; plates 10 and 11 were made but never used. Scarcity does not follow the numbers. Plate 12 is the scarce one. Plates 7 and 8 are scarcer than the rest. Plate 9 is the one most often met. The plate number is engraved in the lattice of both side frames, and the corner letters give the stamp’s position in the sheet of 240.
