Queen Victoria twopence blue, 1858–69 white lines issue, plate 9, corner letters D-T and T-D. Used, perforated.
The cancellation. A circular datestamp rather than a barred numeral — the postmark that records the day a letter was posted, which postmark collectors look for. The figure 15 is legible; the town is not. It is struck across the portrait, which is the main thing against this copy.
The plate, honestly. The 1858–69 twopence blue was printed from plates 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14 and 15; plates 10 and 11 were made but never used. Scarcity does not follow the numbers. Plate 12 is the scarce one. Plates 7 and 8 are scarcer than the rest. Plate 9 is the one most often met. The plate number is engraved in the lattice of both side frames, and the corner letters give the stamp’s position in the sheet of 240.
